The Retro Girl on a Budget: Undergarments

Hello, darlings. I've decided to start this new blog with the beginning of a series of posts called The Retro Girl on a Budget. If you're new to the world of classic style, you may be discovering that both vintage and reproduction can be extremely pricey, which is kind of a constant struggle considering the fact that this style is all that I'm drawn to. (Darn you, good taste.)

In this series, I hope to help vintage lovers like myself discover quality brands and products without the Dita Von Teese price tag. These are some of my more affordable go-to items that I'm sure you'll love too.

Shapewear by Rago
Rago is a brand that has been around since 1945. Most of their products are made from Lycra, and everything is made in the USA which is a huge plus. I especially like this 3184 Satin Garter Belt that I bought from Dollhouse Bettie. It's durable enough for every day, but the satin is pretty enough for special occasions.

Bras by Bali

You don't have to spend an arm and a leg for a ladylike silhouette. If you find you're too shy to wear bullet bras in public but still want a subtle, feminine bra shape, this Flower Bra from Bali is a good option. It comes in black, white, and cream, and in a huge range of sizes. The straps are wide and the back features four hook-and-eye closures for ultimate support.

Corsets by Orchard Corset

I made my first purchase from Orchard Corset about two weeks ago and I am so thrilled with my corset. I bought the 22" CS-411 in Satin and I am very impressed with it and my experience with the company. Shipping was fast and the corset is beautifully well-made. The mesh version is next on my wish list. Make sure to keep an eye out for deals and coupon codes! They always have great sales going on.

Stockings by Secrets In Lace

Any retro girl who lives in a colder climate knows that when it gets too chilly outside for bare legs, you'll need a pair of stockings underneath your dresses and skirts. Fully-fashioned stockings are beautiful and luxurious, but if you're like me and can't afford to spend $30+ every time one snags, you'll probably be looking for some cheaper alternatives. These Dana Sheer Heel Stockings are a little more reasonable at $9.99 a pair. They're offered in beige, coffee, and black (my favorite). If you have thicker thighs like I do, which can sometimes lead to fit troubles, don't worry. They're made of an awesome stretch nylon that will cling to your curves perfectly. Lovely, right?
